Commercial Water Damage Services FAQ

Recovery from Comercial Water Damage: Your Questions Answered

  • How long does it take for my property to dry?

The drying time depends on various factors like water source, building materials, weather, and quick response. While there's no fixed timeline, it typically takes around three to five days or more.

  • How can I tell if my property is completely dry?

We use specialized equipment for accurate testing; simply touching the surface might not provide an accurate assessment.

  • Do wet and buckling wood floors need replacement?

Wet wood floors can often be saved. We use specialized drying methods to restore them. Your insurance adjuster will decide if refinishing or replacement is needed.

  • Does increasing the heat speed up drying?

Turning up the heat won't necessarily help dry things faster. Our specialized equipment and methods are more effective for efficient drying.

  • Do I have to vacate my property during the process?

While your insurance representative may advise, it's your decision. Safety is crucial; our equipment is childproof but noisy. If it's disruptive, consider staying elsewhere.

  • Will there be lingering odors after restoration?

You may notice odors during drying, often due to increased humidity. These should dissipate as drying continues. Deodorizers may help reduce them.

  • Can you salvage my wet furniture?

Furniture restoration feasibility depends on damage extent and construction. We need to dry it first before assessing. If furniture can't be saved, we'll document it, and you might need to sign a release form for disposal.

  • Do I need to clear everything during restoration?

Usually, no. We'll inform you if items must be moved.

  • My ceilings are wet. What's the plan?

Our technicians will assess moisture and may remove portions of your ceiling for ventilation. Wet insulation might need removal for safety.

  • Can I walk on the drying area?

Limit traffic to a minimum; wearing shoes is advised for safety.

  • Should I open windows for drying?

Not always recommended; outside conditions vary. Technicians will decide when outside air is suitable.

  • Why is my specialty floor removed?

Non-porous floors can trap water, hindering proper drying. We evaluate specialty floors and attempt restoration.

  • Why use air movers and dehumidifiers?

These tools accelerate drying by releasing absorbed water from surfaces like drywall and subfloor. Dehumidifiers remove excess moisture for efficient drying.

  • Can my carpet be restored or needs replacement?

Carpet restoration may not be possible due to delamination, adhesion loss, stains, covering wood flooring, or sewage contamination.

  • Can you restore items with sewage contamination?

Hard surfaces can be cleaned, while unsalvageable items are disposed of. Porous materials affected directly should be removed during emergency service.

  • How do you match my carpet pad?

We bring a sample to match your pad. If the original isn't available, we provide a similar one in quality, thickness, and density, though it may vary in color.

  • What happens to my area rugs?

Rugs are taken to our warehouse, carefully dried, cleaned, and returned to prevent color bleeding and discoloration.

  • Who is responsible for payment?

All responsible parties must authorize payment before work begins. For insurance claims, we usually collect only the deductible and bill the balance to your insurer. If it's not covered, full payment is expected at the time of service.

  • Who monitors the drying equipment?

Our specialists set up and monitor the equipment for optimal results. Notify us if it's turned off or moved.

  • Why was wet carpet left on my stairs?

Stair carpet is typically not removed for safety. There are exceptions, like damage prevention for hardwood steps or sewage contamination. Tack strip removal is discouraged as it can harm hardwood or subfloor. Unsalvageable stair carpet is removed during new carpet installation.
